My last criticism:
A) The hot dogs are actually good (for 2 bucks apice I guess)
B) You missed out on the one stereotype that’s true (fireworks in Chinatown)
C) No mentioning Zoidberg?
what the glutes is a zoidberger?
“Zoidberg” = character on animated show Futurama + show set in future NYC + character willing to eat absolutely anything = still rather weak reference
I’d be weary around Niece-Bug, too. Girl is sketchy.
I wouldn’t ask her any snarky questions. Her Uzi is probably under the counter and loaded.
Bugs expression in the second panel is hilarious.
For the first time reading this strip, I’m confused. How does impersonating a homicide detective fit into getting a hot dog?
“Law and Order” series. Detective partner characters often seen Munching food from vendors as they stroll / discuss cases / solve crimes / save humanity / pirouette comically / etc.
L&O detective … “MUNCH”ing. Ha. *single clap*
I went back and forth all day yesterday, wondering if people would get the reference. For me, it seems like so many movies and TV shows that feature homicide detectives have at least one scene where they get a hot dog from a street vendor.
Don’t worry, I got the L&O reference LOL
I got the reference, and I never even watched those shows. I just picked it up by cultural osmosis.
I’ve never seen Law and Order, so my first thought was Dirty Harry. Although he didn’t buy a hot dog from a vendor, he did typically eat a hot dog for lunch at a diner, so it’s somewhat similar.
By the way, did you know Bug has an entry in TV Tropes?
did u notice that the icon for the TV Tropes site looks like a bug with its eyes closed !! )
Gooo Bug !!
okay, I know it’s probably been said, but the expression in panel two was great! Also, I really hope we see more of ethnic vendor bug!
Nope, the first thing I got when I enabled ProjectWonderful ads was another NSFW image.
Should I feel deprived that I’m not seeing these ads? Is it a dishy naked guy? Odds are real slim, I know.
XD Nope, sorry. The type of images I see are all female.
Weird. I should only be getting ads that are safe for work. How about this: next time you see one of these ads, take a screen capture and email to me.
Will do. Looks like today’s are much better.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this week’s theme of what to do if you go to NYC. I’ve never been, and these all seem awesome. I’m actually looking forward to a Greys Papaya hot dog, but don’t know if they’re sold in street carts. I’ve just heard about ‘em.
I will, however, be making a scene at the Statue of Liberty and I might call out “Soylent Green is People” in a crowded subway. We’ll see.
I suspect I’m not the only person who read this and thought, “You would love to eat a homicide detective, then impersonate him (while you were still eating him)?”
I mean, hot dog ingredients ARE notoriously mysterious, so… didn’t seem implausible.
(This also resulted in a different reading of the dialogue in the last panel–it should speak for itself, but think cannibalism if it isn’t immediately clear.)
Commas are important!!!
You know, he could use some lemonade to wash down that hot dog…
A bird took a poo on a hot dog of mine once. Funny, thing was, I didn’t notice it, and neither my friend. I was full so ah… well, my friend had to go to hospital.
I would love to see the audition candidates to be bugs diametrically opposed partner.
love his eyes in panel 2
Adam, I’ve been reading these comics for a round a year and every one has given me a laugh one way or another. From one “Wisconsinite” to another, well done. Keep it up.
