North and South America are separate continents, collectively called the Americas, with the inhabitants all technically called Americans. There is no problem with people refering USA as America if they really want to(besides some complaints about arrongacy) but I really wish people were constant about it. Even in serious places you can see someone call it USA and America while using America to refer to the entire continent. Hell I have ever seen America being used as Canada + USA and as equivalent to North America. So the conclusion is don't use it at all as it is simply easier to work with. Not really. There are 5 continents. Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania and America.

There is no problem with people refering USA as America if they really want to(besides some complaints about arrongacy) but I really wish people were constant about it. There is no continent called America. If you are talking about "United States", then you could be talking about the United States of America, or the United States of Mexico. If The United States of Mexico can abbreviate to Mexico, then The United States of America can abbreviate to America. No one will confuse America (country) with North America, South America, or The Americas. If you are talking about the continents, then it is either North America or South America. There is no continent called America. If you are talking about “United States”, then you could be talking about the United States of America, or the United States of Mexico.
If The United States of Mexico can abbreviate to Mexico, then The United States of America can abbreviate to America. No one will confuse America (country) with North America, South America, or The Americas.
