ya, stoopid inglish! y u so hard 2 spel?
“STOP! HALT! QUIT! CEASE!”
*rofl* Poor guard, noone listens…
Third panel is one of my all time favorites for Bug Comic.
You will have to fight the French. Not sure who you go to for pterodactyl since it is based on a Greek word but somebody had to anglicize it.
Sure you don’t want to spell it ordurv?
Very talented work with the glasses,
how simple circles and squares show so much emotion.
“And the K in knife”
“And change “Phonics” to “Fonix” ”
Square-glasses bow-tie nerd bug is sure wimpy looking. It really is amazing how much expression you get into your bug’s faces. Kudos!
I actually really enjoy odd spellings. I think they’re kind of fun. Plus it makes mah feel raht smart when I know hows ta spell’m :B
As for hors d’voeures and other fancy foreign words, I’m not sure if we can really be upset about things that follow the rules and phonetics of a different language. But dangit, we can try!
Just don’t spell it like they do in Esperanto, antaŭmanĝaĵo, although it is spelled like it sounds.
Brilliant, this is exactly how I imagine the German orthography reform took place.
Must be the same organization who attacked the Portuguese dictionary makers. We’ve lost the cç, pt, ct, months and seasons with capital letters, and many other things. Someone must take action and put an end to all this linguistic violence.
Linguistic violence? Noooo! Please, someone save the Linguini!!
That’s what you get for stealing our words, just make your own!
In my experience, at some parties (depending on the caterer) “hors d’oeuvre” and “horse devour” can be used interchangeably…
I’m totally gonna ask for “horse devour” next time I’m at a dinner party.
It’s nice how you added expressions to eyeglasses.
Wait. It’s something you eat? I thought it was horse’s ovaries.
My favourite silent P is in pneumonia. And as you can see by the way I spelled “favourite”, I belong to the part of the English word that spells word the way the the Queen does
oh and *words
Clearly in my part of the word, we don’t have spell check LOL
Of course I meant “world” Ugh.
As a joke, my wife pronounces it “whore’s drawers.”
I’ve been working on making the English alphabet phonemic since September. and learning about the origins of my frustrations towards ridiculous spellings has been illuminating. I’ve already eliminated the letters C, E, Q, and X. And I’ve added Þ, Ð, Ŋ, and more.
B-but, cookie starts with C
One of my favorite responses . . . Ever!
The last four letters in my last name are “OUGH”. So, does my last name rhyme with: Cough, Plough, Rough, Dough, or Through?
A good frind of mine has the last name Doughman, pronounced Doofman!
I loved the third panel so much.
The name is Maple, That’s M as in Mnemonic, A as in Apple, P as in Pseudonym, L as in Larry and E as in Eulogy.
But if you make the official spellings phonetic, which accent do you use?
Always spoke French, so no problem there… Granted, there are OTHER French words that have useless silent letters, but they never bothered me all that much.
It’s funny to hear people who don’t speak said-language try and pronounce it, though. Some words have really been modified in pronunciation due to the way some languages work…
Try and say “Maheu”, tell me how that goes.
No-one’s pointed it out yet?
Yes, that is also an acceptable spelling. But so is “thesauruses.”
they where competing with there arch rival the french on who would have the hardest written language.
I was gonna point out that Nerd Bug finally has someone to pick on, but then I remembered Main Bug generally fills that role all the time.
Excuse me interjecting, but as an Englishman i feel i must point out that you lot misspell quite enough words as it is without demanding this misspelling of more. that is all.
On the other hand us Czech constantly find young people saying words like cool, O.K., ICQ, shit, bro, and many others. Being an English teacher I find it particularly “cool” when such student proves to be unabpe to say one sentence without a mistake.;)
When I was a kid I thought you pronounced it ‘horzdeevor.’ I still say it that way sometimes . . .
The first panel had me laughing pretty hard.
“…someone suffered a stroke while writing: Horse Devour.”
You just got to love this man, is brilliant. U tha man Adam, u tha man!
What about bologna? Come on now!! My hobo meat has a ridiculous name! ♩♪♫
It is pronounced horse doovers. Sheesh. It’s not like that was hard.
